Using a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and collage, Nancy Patrick Carney’s imaginatively stylized paintings capture the essence of city life in a contemporary American city. Her colorful collections of figures represent a cross section of cultures and lifestyles. Rich and poor, young and old, each is a unique individual, yet all are unified through the design elements of the composition. Just as the Impressionist’s figures epitomize life in Paris in the 1880’s, and Edward Hopper shows us 1930’s New York, these people show us who we are today. They’re on cell phones, carrying coffee, wearing sneakers and backpacks and iPods. These paintings represent the diversity of our culture today, yet the figures are unified through Carney’s unique artistic expression.
