WHAT'S NEW?
Here are some of the projects and paintings I've been working on lately.  If you would like more information about these paintings, leave me a message on the CONTACT page.

THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER PROJECT  In June of 2011, the Critical Thumb critique group (including Keith Donaldson, Andy Evansen, Karen Knutsen, MarySue Krueger, Judy Lieber, Dave Rickert,  Gail Speckman, Pat Undis, Dan Weimer and myself) exhibited a group show at Banfill Locke Center for the Arts in Fridley, MN.    Each of the ten "Thumbs" contributed five original paintings that depicted the Mississippi River.  I chose to paint five of the downtown Minneapolis bridges, pictured here:

Hennepin Avenue Bridge                 Third Avenue Bridge                    Stone Arch Bridge                        The New 35W Bridge

These original paintings are each 12" x 24" watercolor and oil pastel on paper.  They are each
Washington Avenue Bridge                mounted on a stretched canvas and finished with a coat of Dorland wax, so they require no glass
covering, and can be framed or left unframed.

MASTER MANIPULATIONS
In March 2012 the Escape Artists (including Emily Donovan, Calvin deRuyter, Susan Fryer-Voigt, Emmy White, Pamela Weisdorf and myself) exhibited "Master Manipulations" at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hopkins, MN.  The group chose twelve famous historic paintings by past masters, and each of us did our own interpretation of that painting.  This educational and entertaining exhibit was very well recieved and will soon be exhibited at another site.

Night Hawks by Edward Hopper                      Night Hawks at Mickey's by Nancy Patrick Carney
Hopper found his inspiration at an anonymous diner on an isolated Greenwich Village street, that captures a mood of lonliness and emptiness in the nightime city scene.  In my painting I used a familiar local landmark.  Are they strangers or friends?  A lonely couple goes their separate ways on a quiet winter night outside Mickey's Diner in downtown St Paul.

PLEIN AIR PAINTINGS  I love painting en plein air, and enjoy teaching classes in and around the Twin Cities in the spring and fall.   Check my "Calendar" page for upcoming classes.  Here are a few recent paintings from my travels:
